Sally & Todd are married

Today with the cloud releasing much needed hydration to a draught stricken Nelson, I had the honour of capturing the marriage of Sally & Todd in-front of their family and friends in a super relaxed and beautiful villa in Nelson. The colours were gorgeous, the setting was perfect and there were smiles a plenty.

My days are now filled working with enthusiastic students at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology sharing my experience and passion for Lens-Based media and Critical Studies on the Bachelor of Arts and Design, therefore I haven’t been sharing as much of my own photography work. I would like to thank Sally and Todd for sharing their day with me enabling me to keep my finger on the shutter!

I always shoot with Canon, today I had the 5DM4, 24-70mm 2.8, 600EX-II RT speedlite and a CP-E4 Battery Pack.

Georgia

I really enjoyed this studio shoot with an awesome team, including some new creatives I had not worked with before, but will certainly be again! Angela of Beauty by Angela worked her magic creating my vision for this series which was muted and pale,  the makeup blew me away! Ema did a great job on Georgias hair - but then I ruined it experimenting with a leaf blower (note: blowing hair for a shoot is not as simple as you would think - about 100 shots attempted not one worked!) I decided to ditch the blowing hair idea, unfortunately the hair was a bit of a mess after that, so Georgia and I had to do our best without a hairdresser or even a brush/comb!

I have experimented with editing out the movable wall and leaving it in the composition, with this being the third mock-up experimentation for my studio project (Fashion Photography for a NZ label)

The amazing wall artworks are actually vintage tourism posters from Nostalgia Antiques

Marina

I am excited to share with you the second of my studio experiments for my 3rd year studio project - 'Fashion Photography for a New Zealand Label'
The label I am going to photograph has a strong 'Kiwi' theme, supporting New Zealand in a wide variety of ways. It is important that I promote the NZ aspect of the label, so I have experimented with different ways in which I can approach this. With the first shoot, I played with props - nostalgic kiwiana icons such as souvenir tea towels, apple crates & Nelson Photo News magazines. This time I have taken New Zealand paintings, prints & photography, placing the model beside them. With each composition I have chosen a dress which 'speaks' to the image, creating unity.

Marina, looks stunning in these dresses, she is a fabulous talent with a beautiful grace to her,

I always welcome feedback, so please comment any thoughts.

With thanks my amazing team of contributors:

Emma & Anton's Wedding

On Saturday the 28th November 2015 I was privileged to shoot the wedding of Emma and Anton. In the months leading up to the big day the bride and I met up and talked about pose ideas, the plans and how the day would flow. We watched the weather reports like crazy and although the wind was blowing a gale the weather was beautiful.

The day started for me at the mother of the brides home where I captured the brides maids and then the beautiful bride get hair and makeup done. Even the wee flower girls got a splash of lip gloss and blusher.

I headed out to the wedding venue to see a relaxed Groom and his party eagerly awaiting the bride who turned up in style, I just loved the blue car! Family and friends watched while the happy couple said their vows and became Mr and Mrs.. while the wind blew.

The bridal party and I went to Isel Park to take some portraits which the wind kindly paused for followed by reception back at the venue.

What touched me about this wedding was the amount of love for friends, family and absent loved ones, all of whom were remembered. What a relaxed and beautiful wedding, where everyone was included and everything was planned for such smooth running.

1940's Inspired Photo Shoot at Warwick House

I am very excited to share with you a photo shoot I did this Tuesday at Warwick House . It is an amazing venue to shoot in, originally called  "Sunnyvale" it was built in 1854 and is one of a few beautifully restored historic homes in nelson. I have always been interested in history from a young age, researching historic homes and places around the Nelson area. You can see some of my photographs of the places I have been privileged to visit and talk to historians and home owners about here at my History in Toe website.

The model Sheena Thomas a fresh new face, this was her first time modeling and I think she nailed it!  Tina of Just Costumes  supplied all the clothing and helped me to come up with a style - 1940s inspired to suit the venue.

I had the expert talent of Michelle Longman on hair and Emillie MacRitchie doing Make-up. This is our fifth time working together we work so well together they are brilliant at what they do and enable me to create magical photographs.

I would like to thank EVERYONE involved with this shoot, I am so happy with the results which include some of my favourite works to date!

School Holiday walk up the Brook Dam - Nelson.

During the school holidays I had a chance to take a break from study and relax with the kids. I spent the time taking lots of photographs. Here is a visual snap shot of one of our many adventures together.

You can get some really interesting images shooting up through the tree canopy.
